WCMC History Timeline

10/14/2005 - CBC flips the switch on its first country music radio station, WCMC-FM 99.9 Genuine Country on Thursday, October 13th at 3pm.

11/1/2006 - WCMC-FM The New 99.9 Genuine Country dedicated a brand new 500 foot tower on Wednesday, Nov 1, 2006. Located in Youngsville, NC, the structure was designed by Electronics Research of Chandler, IN. WCMC had been leasing space on an existing tower in Franklinton before the switch.

6/28/2007 - The Carolina Hurricanes announce CBC will become the flagship radio station for the Canes, broadcasting all pre-season, regular-season and post-season games on WCMC-FM 99.9 Genuine County. WCMC will also produce and air other Canes-related programming, and WRAL.com will enhance its Carolina Hurricanes section online. The three-year agreement begins with the season starting September 2007.

10/10/2007 - WCMC-FM converts to an all-sports-talk radio format, the first FM sports station in the Triangle. 99.9 The Fan unveils its new line-up and slate of hosts.

10/1/2008 - WRAL-TV, WRAL.com and 99.9 The Fan launch www.wralsportsfan.com, a comprehensive sports website bringing together CBC's television and radio coverage on the World Wide Web.

10/29/2008 - The Fan enters into an agreement with ESPN Radio to become their Triangle affiliate.

12/1/2008 - 99.9 The Fan launches their new ESPN Radio affiliation.

5/10/2010 - 99.9 The Fan (WCMC-FM) upgrades their reach by switching from the tower in Youngsville to a position on the WRAL-TV tower in Auburn, N.C., significantly increasing their signal.
