Mission Statement Message from the GM
-- Mike Birling, General Manager |
The Durham BullsOverview The Bulls have set several records for attendance and are widely known for being an affordable family-friendly venue. Mascot Wool E. Bull not only entertains the crowd but works hard to support education, along with the Bulls’ many other community projects. History Goodmon built a new home for the Bulls on Blackwell Street, adjacent to the Durham Freeway, which opened for the 1995 season. Then in 1998, the ballpark underwent expansion to meet criteria for the Bulls to move up to Triple-A. Previously associated with the Atlanta Braves when Single-A, the Bulls became an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. In 2002, the Bulls played an exhibition game with the Tampa Bay Rays on March 30th, the first game in team history to be broadcast in High-Definition on local television. Later that year on April 8th, Bulls Manager Bill Evers became the all-time winningest manager with 320 wins. Then in September the Bulls claimed their first International League Championship and first title of any kind in 33 years. They took the same title a year later, becoming the only team in the 119-year history of the International League to sweep back-to-back Governors’ Cup Finals.
