Komen for the Cure


About Komen for the Cure:
Born in a promise between two sisters – Nancy Brinker to her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36 – the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has become the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting to end breast cancer forever.

Nancy Brinker & Susan G. KomenOn its 25th anniversary the organization is now known as The Susan G. Komen for the Cure, but its promise remains the same, to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

The Triangle Komen Foundation will bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month with two highlights:  PinkFest and Passionately Pink for the Cure.

PinkFest:
A new community event, PinkFest is a celebration for survivors, co-survivors, friends and family in honor of  Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

PinkFest

PinkFest sponsors include WRAL-TV and WRAL-FM MIX 101.5.  WRAL-TV Anchor/Reporter Pam Saulsby will emcee the event, which will feature several bands including the local band Crush and CBC’s own in house band Transmit This.

Wandering artists and performers, a special kids area and a variety of activities will offer opportunities for fun.  A silent auction will benefit the Komen NC Triangle Affiliate, and lots of give-aways and prizes will be awarded throughout the afternoon.

The highlight of the afternoon will be a special Survivor Recognition Ceremony, featuring the announcement of this year’s Spirit of Survivorship Award.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for youth (ages 5-15), kids ages 4 and under are free. Tickets for breast cancer survivors are $5. Purchase now.

Passionately Pink for the Cure™
Passionately Pink for the Cure™ is a simple awareness and fundraising program that begins October 1, 2007.  It’s a way to show support for the cause during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

Passionately Pink for the CureIn 2006, more than 700,000 individuals were Passionately Pink for the Cure™, helping raise $3 million to fund Komen’s promise.  Komen for the Cure’s hope for 2007 is to raise at least $5 million through ONE MILLION participants.

How to Get Pink:

  • Anyone can participate! Recruit your co-workers, religious or social group, school, friends and family members to join your group, and register your group.
  • Pick your day (or days), anytime during the month of October, to wear pink and make a $5 (or more) personal donation to Komen for the Cure.
  • Registered groups receive a participation kit that includes posters to promote your day, participant booklets, breast health information and Passionately Pink for the Cure pins for your participants to wear to show their support for the cure!
