How To Help the Futures for Kids:
Become a Career Coach. It’s easy. You host an online discussion board. You don’t get email in your inbox. Rather, we “tickle” you with a message when a student puts a question on the board you’re hosting.

A WRAL Example
WRAL-TV Meteorologist Mike Moss is a Career Coach with F4K. He shared his experiences with the program.
I'm involved in Futures4Kids (F4K) as one of many "Career Coaches" that they began recruiting about three years ago. I started with the program back in 2006, and since then whenever a student that is associated with F4K submits a question about meteorology or weather as a career, I post an answer that either provides the information they wanted to know or directs them to additional resources that will fill in details or broaden their access to the field.
The F4K organization makes it a pretty simple process to be a coach, as it is all done online. Just sign up at the web site, await confirmation based on a background check, and then anytime a student asks a question in your field you receive an e-mail notice. That way, you don't have to routinely log onto the F4K boards to check for new questions. Examples of questions I've fielded for students include information on universities with good meteorology programs, what the chances are of becoming a "storm chaser," what kind of math skills are needed to pursue meteorology as a career, and what an average day on the job is like. |
