About EDGE Training & Placement, Inc.:
EDGE is a 501 (c) 3 education and training program designed to engage at-risk youth in a results-oriented, disciplined environment promoting academics, leadership and personal responsibility.
The EDGE Training and Placement program takes former gang members and/or high school drop-outs and helps them achieve the success of getting their GED and moving on in a positive and productive direction.
Founder and program director Fran Alexander moved to Durham to retire but decided she needed to do something to address the gang problem and drop-out rate.
EDGE offers education, career exploration and personal development services. They offer small classroom settings with qualified instructors and tutors in an atmosphere that promotes personal responsibility for academic learning. EDGE seeks out mentors to help guide students considering college and/or a variety of vocations. EDGE emphasizes accountability, discipline, efficiency, and integrity. They strive to provide our students with opportunities to develop strong leadership skills, both in the classroom and in the community.
Students and graduates from EDGE receive services indefinitely to ensure their success within and beyond the EDGE program. Follow-up services include college placement, job assistance, counseling, and other alumni services.
