CBC Community Profile

Capitol Broadcasting Company believes one of our greatest responsibilities is supporting our community. CBC’s Community Profile is a new monthly feature on the Web – a way to inform our employees and the public about the work of area non-profits, and their volunteer opportunities and needs.

For December 2009, take closer look at the Durham Arts Council.

About the Durham Arts Council:
The Durham Arts Council is a private nonprofit dedicated to supporting the arts in Durham and the Triangle Region in North Carolina.  DAC promotes excellence in and access to the creation, experience and active support of the arts for all the people of our community.

Durham Arts CouncilThe DAC helps professional and amateur artists and arts organizations produce music, theatre, dance, visual, media and literary art. They also help residents and visitors find, enjoy and participate in the artistic and cultural events available in the community.

Durham Arts CouncilDAC operates a warehouse studio facility in Durham, as well as running the DAC headquarters on Morris Street. They program classes in the performing, literary and visual arts for toddlers through seniors and work with public and private schools to provide artist residencies designed for the classroom.

DAC raises public and private funds to support the arts in the community, as well as provides grants, information and networking for artists and arts groups. DAC also provides exhibit space for visual artists.

How To Help the Durham Arts Council:
Durham Arts CouncilHelp the Durham Arts Council support artists and provide arts in our community and schools. Since fees and other earned income only provide 42% of the total costs to deliver our outstanding programs and services to the community, the Durham Arts Council must raise $1.2 million in contributions from generous donors each year.

There are several ways to give. Find out more HERE.
